For some, getting an education is a dream come true. Brookhaven Head Start parent and 2010 graduate of Brookhaven College, Asia Richards shares her personal "fairytale" story and how she's overcome challenges to make her dreams come true.

On September 8, 2010, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., HEAD START of Greater Dallas, Inc. is taking part in Get Up and Give! North Texas Giving Day. Every donation above $25 will be matched if you donate using www.donorbridgetx.org, an online resource to connect donors with nonprofit organizations like us.

 

Please visit the site anytime between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., search for our nonprofit and click “Donate Now.”

 

 

Your donation will go a long way in helping us give young children and their families a head start, plus every dollar given at any time during the day will receive a portion of $700,000+ in matching funds – making your dollars go further. > HSGD and Frito-Lay Kick off Partnership & School Year!
Frito-Lay employees gave of their time and resources at the Tri-center Back to School Bash, to ensure 600 Head Start families and their children were ready for back to school. 1,200 backpacks with supplies were donated to Head Start children and their school-age siblings.

Frito-Lay adopted Gannon, Grand Prairie and Brookhaven College Head Start Centers for the 2010-2011 school year as part of their “As One” Initiative to encourage diversity and inclusion.

Each year, more than 4,200 disadvantaged children get a "head start" in life with quality educational programs that are made possible by our corporate and foundation partners, community volunteers and more than 700 employees.

> Volunteer at Head Start!
Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity where you can make a difference in the life of a young child? Head Start of Greater Dallas helps preschoolers get a head start in life - and we need your help. Whether it's with a church group, a community organization or just by yourself, there's a volunteer opportunity waiting to be filled. Register online or contact Deneeco Young at 972.283.6457 to learn more about becoming a Head Start volunteer! Here are just a few examples of what our centers need:

  • Upgrade playground equipment

  • Paint interior of centers

  • Landscaping

  • Build a lending library for parents and children

  • Multicultural activities are needed year-round

 


> Head Start Enrollment for 2010/2011

The 2010/2011 school year started August 16th. Follow these steps to learn more about eligibility and availability at our centers located throughout Dallas County.

1.
Is your child between the ages of 3 - 5 [Under 3 may qualify for Early Head Start]

2. Families must meet the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Verify your household income.

3. Download and complete application [English / Spanish ].

4. Contact a Head Start center for availability.
